Functionality GPS Story Teller

This page describes the functionality of the GPS Story Teller based on a demo that was developed for the 'month of the mysterious book' in Wageningen.
In this demo Story you head out in Wageningen and look for clues IRL (in real life) who has commited a murder (which was fictional :-).
Based on the clues you find the murderer and arrest him, that is ... if you are quick enough.

The Story start which a front screen, which might contain images and/or introduction videos. Video's are always landscape, map might be either landscape or portrait.
GPS navigation

After the introduction you get a map from the target area. You are the green dot in the area.
All accesible points are shown in red, all visited points in brown.
Video on location

If you 'hit' the first point as you walk, the iphone buzzes and shows automtically the first video, in this case a police office telling the details about the murder and telling you there are 3 witnesses.
Programmable sequence of locations

After the video is shown you return to the map, which is updated with the new available locations.
In the Wageningen demo you visit the 3 locations of the witnesses and they will tell their testimony.
All witnesses in this demo give you a clue where to look in reality: in a birdhouse, in the water of a small river and in a shop front.
At those places objects where hidden, for you to find.
Choice

After visiting the 3 witnesses, you get a screen where you choose the 'murderer' based on the information you find in real life.
Based on your choice a new location is revealed on the map: the place of the murder weapon.
Enter data from real life

At the given location a (toy)gun was hidden. To check you really found the gun you have to enter a code that was found on the gun.
For your application you can hide any code you want: a sticker on a window, a phonenumber in a phonebooth, a code on a businesscard you get somewhere.
Simulated phonecall

You then get a call from the inspector: with the standard iphone ringtone ringing, you get a simulated call. If you answer this call, you get a voice message from the inspector. In this case telling you to go to the central market square.
Timed sequences

Arriving at the market square you phone buzzes again and show you a video with the suspect running away. Now it is time for action! Your job is to run to the other side of the square to catch up with the suspect. You have 25 seconds!

Alternative endings

If you reach the next checkpoint within 25 seconds you get the suspect and he confesses, we have a happy end!
If you didn't make it in time, alas, you see the suspect running away, perhaps you like to try again?
